Recall that on Wednesday, 1st April, 2020 President Trump during a White House press briefing suggested that the Chinese government was being economical with the truth about the reported number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus and deaths in China. Many people disagreed with the president and called him names but he was adamant that China may have underreported the actual state of things in the country.
"I'm not an accountant from China," President Trump responded when he was asked about the accuracy of the Chinese numbers at a White House press briefing. Then he proceeded to throw light on the dishonesty of the Chinese government on the reported numbes of confirmed cases and fatality of the Coronavirus.
"Beijing tally appeared to be a little bit on the light side, and I'm being nice when I say that, relative to what we witnessed and what was reported." Trump told reporters.
Weeks later, it seems that President Trump has been proven right after all. According to report coming out of China, Wuhan on Friday 17th April, 2020 raised its original reported number of deaths by 1,290, which is roughly a 50% jump from the initial reported number. The Chinese city of Wuhan was the epicenter of the global pandemic coronavirus where the virus was first discovered in 2019. And with this latest official announcement, the total number of fatality in Wuhan stands at 3,869.
The Wuhan announcement came at the heels of criticism of the Chinese Government by many world leaders for their lack of transparency in the handling of the global pandemic coronavirus.
French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his dissatisfaction at the Chinese handling of the global pandemic. Saying that it would be totally "naive" to suggest that China had handled the contagion better, pointing out that there are things that happened in China we probably did not know.
"Given these difference, the choices made and what China is today, which I respect, let's not be so naive as to say it's been much better at handling this. We don't know. There are clearly things that have happened that we don't know about." The French President said.
Considering, the new reported number in Wuhan, do you think China has been honest and transparent about the coronavirus?
